About Us
The initial idea behind what Game Hybrid is now was conceived in mid-2005, and the domain name GameHybrid.com and GameHybrid.net were purchased.
What was the ‘initial idea’?
Before setting up a new game site, we realised that there would be little-to-no point in setting up another video game Web site that could not hope to release enough information (as we are a relatively small team) to compete with some of the larger video game Web sites.
On the other hand, while one of our main passions is classic Roleplaying Games (RPG), we realised that this was perhaps too small of a market to aim at. This is not to say that we do not believe there is a lot to be written about the classic, role-a-dice, Dungeons and Dragons style of RPG, but we do have huge aims for Game Hybrid: that is, to cover not only one form of RPG, but indeed all forms of the RPG, ranging from the most obscure pen-and-paper RPG to the most graphically beautiful PlayStation releases.
Why is the site named ‘Game Hybrid’ if it is about RPGs?
Our favourite type of game is an RPG style of game, and as was mentioned earlier we have decided to cover various types of RPG, fused into one site. Hence the term ‘Hybrid’. A definition of hybrid can be found at the foot of this page, just for your own enlightenment.
Clearly the ‘Game’ aspect of our title derives from the fact that it is a roleplaying game Web site. It was suggested that our title should be RPG Hybrid or something along those lines, but we felt that this name was less restrictive, as in the future we may wish and be able to branch out into further varieties of game.
Our staff policies
The introduction and hiring of new staff members was one of the key issues we had when discussing an outline for Game Hybrid. This is because it is so hard as a non-commercial Web site to actually be able to hire experts who can write to a sufficiently high and coherent level because of the financial restraints. The only avenue of possibility would therefore be to bring in voluntary helpers. There is nothing wrong with this in principle, but the trouble with having volunteers tends to be commitment, or the lack there of.
In past Web sites we have run, we have often had huge numbers of staff applications, and have had long discussions with the applicants, yet when the time to work actually arrives, they soon disappear. This is why the only real way to become an official member of staff here at Game Hybrid you would need to familiarize yourself with us for long periods of time so that we can build up a level of trust and know your commitment.
